Etiotherapy by Christopher Fleischner

What is Etiotherapy?

Etiotherapy comes from the Greek words aitio and therapeia that mean cause and cure.

Etiotherapy, based physics, neurophysiology and logic brings healing to another level of understanding.
It provides practitioners with the means to decipher and bring the appropriate information to the patient's awareness, unleashing the internal forces necessary to foster healing.

Incoherences that the body wasn't able to adapt to may be the basis of somatic, immune and psychosomatic illness. Their legacies can both compromise one’s health and wellbeing, and can be the underpinning of health problems, whether they are acute or chronic, or indeed not.

Every part of our body carries  information about our health. The circulation and management of this information affects our metabolism, postural adaptation, psyche-emotional processes and immunity in general.

Information processing, at the basis of life as we know it, is conveyed through gases, fluids, solids, living cells and our homeostatic complexity via fields and wave patterns. The most accessible wave pattern is the pulse. Changes in the pulse bring to the therapist’s attention the emergence of incoherent information that can then be assessed and identified, brought to the patient’s attention, clearing the way for a normalisation of information circulation which disinhibits physiological healing processes by alleviating stress.

Why does it work?

The role of stress in disease is fundamental. Stress can affect core functions – our psychology, biology and physiology.   From cellular reproduction to defense mechanisms, from postural adaption to psychological resilience - each homeostatic process in our bodies relies on a appropriate dispatching and processing of information.

Any type of healing we get works better when our stress levels are lowered: bones heal faster, inflammation recedes, immunity and tissue repair are boosted, and anxiety levels diminish. Existential challenges can then be addressed more efficiently, solutions arise spontaneously from the inside.

Contrary to most medical procedures based on generalisation or deduction, lab tests and imagery, this procedure emerged from the realisation that information treatment in each individual is unique.  Therefore, the sequence and content in which the information becomes available is specific to the individual being treated. Etiotherapy is not a “one size fits all” healing system.

How does Etiotherapy work?

Etiotherapy is a synthesis of various fundamental research in Auricular medicine, Etiomedicine and Energology that provides a systemic and holistic approach to the healing act.
The development of Etiotherapy was made possible by cybernetics, holography, fractal mathematics, quantum physics, auricular medicine and the works of Stephan Lupasco on ternary logic.
Unlike Psychotherapy, Etiotherapy does not rely solely on psychological interpretation or the exploration of emotion. Nor does it uniquely consider symptom interpretation and lab tests. Etiotherapy doesn’t consider the physical body as the sole representative to be addressed. It brings the biological and psychic information into the picture as well.

Stress is expressed at a cardio-vascular level through changes in the pulse. Etiotherapy uses the VAS (Vascular Autonomic Signal) as mediated by the pulse to monitor the emergence of indicators that are then matched to specific maps. Auricular medicine practitioners base the creation of those maps on 40 years of clinical research. When our body holds incoherent information, our structure, posture, biology and psychology produce signals.

The emerging information can be so precise that ages, categories of events and situations can be specified. When this unconscious information is brought to consciousness, awareness emerges and pathology is defused. Metabolic and symbolic coherence is restored and healing can take place. The therapist is applying a rational and coherent procedure that is based on the information provided by the patient instead of the doctor's rationalizations and knowledge.
There is nothing either magical, intuitive  or spiritual in this method.

Who is it for?

Etiotherapy is a method of choice for physicians and therapists who need to maintain a space of neutrality in order to be efficient in their line of work. The understanding of identification with the patient’s issues is crucial in preserving therapeutic neutrality and avoiding burn-out.

Etiotherapy is a method of choice for patients that need clarity and understanding about what they are dealing with on the long and winding road of health restoration. Through a system that relies solely on information gleaned from the patient’s reactions as monitored in the pulse, the balance of power is returned into the patient’s hands. In this way medical and other health care practitioners can practice Etiotherapy as a complementary resource.

How is Etiotherapy practiced?

The patient lies down and the doctor, sitting by his/her side, monitors the pulse while placing filters on the body to elicit responses.  As soon as they manifest, the doctor feeds the information back to the patient. Body sensations begin to change, emotions emerge and awareness develops. Body sensations can be intense, but never overwhelming. When all indicators have returned to normal, the session is over. A session is typically performed within an hour. It can be shorter or longer depending on the issues that arise. Sessions are generally spaced a few weeks to a few months apart and do not need to be repeated often.

How can Etiotherapy be learned?

Dr. Christopher Fleischner is responsible for workshops in Canada and the United States. The process includes two levels of theoretical and practical training. A minimal set of filters and charts are provided.

Level 1 introduces participants to the fundamental concepts of Etiotherapy and teaches the basic methodology and treatment protocols based on binary logic.

Level 2 focuses on introducing ternary logic, refining technique and integrating the learning’s toward mastery of the protocol.

Who is Dr. Christopher Fleischner?

Dr. Christopher Fleischner, DO has been a therapist for 37 years. Trained in Traditional Chinese medicine, Osteopathy, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Aromatherapy, Psychodrama, Psychoanalysis and Etiotherapy, he has also been teaching groups on a regular basis for more than 25 years. A long psychoanalytical experience, as both patient and practitioner, has brought him to the realisation that healing is fostered by the transformation of obstacles accumulated in the Psychic, biological and physical matters that our bodies are made of. The freer flow of awareness that ensues unleashes  our self-healing processes.
